“Sunset Park, Brooklyn, NY: Composite Vulnerability Analysis with Storm Surge”
The vulnerability composite is the result of first hand site visits, and a combination of 2000 US Census Data, 2010 US Census Data, and American Community Survey Data. Analysis was done for the census tracts considered to be part of the Sunset Park neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York. Vulnerabilities were weighted based on how strongly or how weakly they affected the community's ability to prepare for a hurricane event. For example, pre-1939 building stock was considered as a mild vulnerability, but was weighted less strongly than "% of population 65 years of age and older," or "households which have 0 vehicles available."
This analysis was performed using ArcGIS.
