“Towards a Model Block: Interventions towards achieving a zero-carbon emissions neighborhood”

aknoll

This diagram was conceived to help people visualize the impacts of the various changes that can be made to reduce one's "carbon footprint" to zero.

The concept that led to this timeline was called the "Model Block." The idea was that if you worked with one block of people, one small community within a larger community you could slowly build up to a "model city." The initiatives within the timeline start easy with things such as replacing incandescent light bulbs with more efficient models, and scales up to larger projects such as using all roof space on block for solar panels, retrofitting every building on the block with new windows. The goal was to emphasize that although progress may seem slow, the small things make a real difference.

The diagram's concept is in part based on the Princeton "Stabilization Wedge Game." http://cmi.princeton.edu/wedges/
